Achievements

From Sins of a Solar Empire

Sins of a Solar Empire has numerous Achievements that one can acquire as they play the game. Some of these are fairly simple to pull off, while others may test your strategic resolve and possibly result in keyboard flight.

These are the Achievements thus far and their descriptions, plus tips on how to complete them and their difficulty.

DIFFICULTIES:

  • Variable: These Achievements pretty much rely on luck - as such, they do not fit into any difficulty category.
  • Laughably Easy: These Achievements should come naturally during the course of gameplay, and you'll probably get them without even thinking about it.
  • Very Easy: Just a step up from Laughably Easy, these goals might be a little tougher, but still shouldn't pose much trouble for the player.
  • Easy: Though defined as "Easy," these Achievements aren't exactly "gimmes," either. Slight challenge may be involved.
  • Fairly Easy: If an Achievement isn't that hard, but isn't that easy either, it falls into this category. Moderate thinking may be required on the player's part to get these Achievements.
  • Medium: This is where the more challenging Achievements start. Typically, they tend to require considerable thinking on the player's part to reach these goals.
  • Somewhat Hard: Just below Hard, Somewhat Hard is a task that, while difficult, is still pretty straightforward. Sometimes the very nature of the Achievement may take some of the edge off.
  • Hard: The Hard Achievements are, well, hard. The player will need considerable planning, or a very specific set of circumstances, to reach these Achievements.
  • Very Hard: At this stage, the gloves are off, and no mercy is shown. These Achievements often offer little leeway for the player if they're to get them, and it's quite a chore to reach one.
  • INSANE: Only given to the toughest of the tough, INSANE Achievements will require the fullest abilities of the player if they hope to reach them - if anything causes keyboard flight, it's these ones. If you manage to complete one of these, give yourself a round of applause for your hard work! You've definitely earned it.

Contents

[edit] Race Achievements

[edit] Ensign

Complete a game as the TEC.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy - Easy
  • How To: Not much to say here. Just win the game as a TEC player.

[edit] Acolyte

Complete a game as the Advent.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy - Easy
  • How To: Again, not much to it. Just win the game as an Advent player.

[edit] Initiate

Complete a game as the Vasari.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy - Easy
  • How To: Once again, just win the game as a Vasari player.

[edit] Master Of Any Domain

Complete a game as a Random Player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy - Medium
  • How To: Beating the game as a random player can be somewhat of a challenge, as you have no control over who you get. If you've mastered all three races, though, it shouldn't matter much.

[edit] AI Achievements

[edit] Plug Puller

Complete a game by yourself against 1 Hard-level AI.

  • Difficulty: Somewhat Hard
  • How To: A Hard AI will use bigger fleets to crush you and your forces. If you manage to nail him in a choke point, or force him to a dead end, though, you can cut his fleet to ribbons if sufficiently-armed. Afterwards, annihilate the planets he owns! or play the a match on easy adn when you are at the enemy's home with a massive fleet save it, go to the menu , load it and pick the hard.

[edit] Toaster Roaster

Complete a game by yourself against 2 Hard-level AIs.

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How To: One Hard AI is trouble enough - two will CERTAINLY make things interesting. For the best results, set up a map with only you in one star system, and the AIs in another. Hopefully, they'll fight it out before they reach you, at which point you should be ready to take them on.

[edit] Comp Stomper

Complete a game by yourself against 3 Hard-level AIs.

  • Difficulty: Very Hard
  • How To: Use the same methods as above. Again, make sure they're not on the same team (better yet, LOCK teams), and hopefully by the time you reach them, they're so weak that your fleet can easily destroy them.

[edit] Actually HAL, I CAN Do That

Complete a game by yourself against 4 Hard-level AIs.

  • Difficulty: INSANE
  • How To: This, to say the least, will require considerable skill. Try penning yourself in a system that has only one way in or out to ensure it's easily defended. Or, you can use the methods as previously described. However, they may wise up and jump you when you're not looking.
    • Also, try putting all the AIs in a system with say, 50-99 pirate bases, and you in a system with lots of asteroid belts. use your colony ships(or scouts if Vasari) to grab the free, undefended resource asteroids and build a big fleet to rush in and take out the pirates and AIs. (User IP 69.131.75.237)
      • Well, I suppose if you want to CHEAT a little...Titan AEX4 19:03, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ship Achievements

[edit] Fear Of Icebergs

Complete a game without using any Capital Ships.

  • Difficulty: Somewhat Hard
  • How To: Though the lack of Capital Ships is a downer, massed fleets of Frigates and Cruisers make this difficult, though not impossible. Mainly, get lots of Heavy Cruisers and Carriers, as they're among your strongest ships available to you. If you have Entrenchment, bring along a few Anti-Structure Cruisers as well.
    • A Point Blank game can be won in under 20 minutes with a Scout/Light Frigate rush to take out the enemy's Constructors and Frigate Factory. Research the siege frigate, and no capital ship is needed for victory. This also gets you "No Exhaust Port Found" and "Best Defense is a Good Offense", below.

[edit] No Exhaust Port Found

Complete a game without any strikecraft.

  • Difficulty: Very Hard
  • How To: Since you can't use fighters or bombers, you'll need to rely on Defense Platforms and ships other than Carriers. Since all one needs to do is move out of a platform's range, expect to re-claim planets a few times.

[edit] Best Defense is a Good Offense

Complete a game without building any Tactical Structures.

  • Difficulty: Hard-INSANE
  • How To: Depending on the map, this will either be a challenge, or a nightmare. If there's only one way in to your destination, a fleet on standby will be enough to hold off intruders. If there's more than one, though, you'd better be ready to put out fires quickly. And without superweapons, you can't crush the enemy as easily as you'd like.

[edit] Go Big or Go Home

Complete a game without building any Frigates or Cruisers. You will probably need Capital Ships for this! (Naw...really?!)

  • Difficulty: INSANE
  • How To: No Cruisers or Frigates means you can only have 16 ships at any one time. Granted, they're powerful ships, but Caps alone a fleet does not make! You'll have to get your race's Mothership as the first or second Capital - otherwise, you won't be able to colonize anything! Try picking a map that gives you ample time to prepare for the enemy fleet - with yours severely reduced, you'll need all the experience you can get!

[edit] Research Achievements

For ANY of these Achievements, give yourself plenty of breathing room so you can deal with your shortcomings appropriately.    The Gaian Crescent map would appear to be the optimal choice for these achievements.  By taking control of the 3 adjacent Terran planets, and then hemming in the AI with strong fleets at the Volcanic planet, and the one Asteroid you can colonize, victory is pretty much assured.  The big concern is balancing your posture so that the AI doesn't give up before you've completed the tech tree in question.

  • Entrenchment Note: You may NOT research anything in your race's "Defense Tree" when completing any of these tasks.

[edit] TEC Military Researcher

Research every subject in the Military Tree while researching no subjects in the Civilian Tree.

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How To: Pretty straightforward, but that doesn't make it any easier. You'll be suffering from a weaker Crystal/Metal income rate, but at the same time, your ships will have almost god-like firepower. In addition, the Novalith Cannon will make short work of your enemies.

[edit] Advent Hostility Researcher

Research every subject in the Hostility Tree while researching no subjects in the Harmony Tree.

  • Difficulty: Very Hard
  • How To: This...will be interesting, to say the least. Most of the Advent's research relies on two key subjects from the Harmony tree, and you won't be able to get either of them. And no culture spread or the Deliverance Engine makes things even tougher.

[edit] Vasari Warfare Researcher

Research every subject in the Warfare Tree while researching no subjects in the Empire Tree.

  • Difficulty: INSANE
  • How To: Oh...darn. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Without their culture, Vasari's damage will be reduced, and they can't get a 20% increase to their fleet, which would be badly needed considering the supply-hogs they are. Furthermore, without Phase Stabilizers, your fleet's mobility is severely reduced. Good luck, Commander - you'll need it.

[edit] TEC Civilian Researcher

Research every subject in the Civilian Tree while researching no subjects in the Military Tree.

  • Difficulty: Very Hard
  • How To: Ouch. With only Cobalt Light Frigates, Arcova Scout Frigates, and Protev Colony Frigates and Capitals, fighting the enemy is going to be a nightmare. And your pathetically-weak shots won't help matters much. Rebel Incursions can assist, however, by keeping your enemies occupied with their own troubles.

[edit] Advent Harmony Researcher

Research every subject in the Harmony Tree while researching no subjects in the Hostility Tree.

  • Difficulty: INSANE
  • How To: The Advent's massed numbers will seem like a disadvantage here, as all your ships will be vulnerable to Long-Range Frigates. Additionally, the lack of Siege Frigates will force you to ensure your enemies can't colonize any planets with an expansive culture influence.

[edit] Vasari Empire Researcher

Research every subject in the Empire Tree while researching no subjects in the Warfare Tree.

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How To: Though you won't be able to research anything in the Warfare Tree, the Phase Stabilizers will help even the odds since you can summon reinforcements by dropping some cash. The gates will also help you put out fires quickly in the event you come under attack.

[edit] Numerical Achievements

[edit] Archaeologist

In a single game, discover and own all artifacts at the same time.

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How To: This, to say the least, requires a big map. Entrenchment adds an extra wrinkle by throwing in 3 more to the original nine. You should construct your own map with a lot of systems to ensure that there's dozens of artifacts - sooner or later, you should get all of them.

[edit] TEC Fleet Diversification

Have at least one of every TEC Capital Ship built at the same time.

[edit] Advent Fleet Diversification

Have at least one of every Advent Capital Ship built at the same time.

[edit] Vasari Fleet Diversification

Have at least one of every Vasari Capital Ship built at the same time.

[edit] Capital Ship Captain

Raise one of your capital ships to level 10.

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • How To: You either need to use only one or two capital ships for most of the game (as experience will be split amongst them), or fight a LOT of battles or raid the local Pirate Base many times. Needless to say, a large map is preferred for this.

[edit] Squadron Leader

In a single game, own at least 100 squadrons at once.

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • How To: It's not so much the issue of getting the 100 squadrons, but rather the time it takes to get the massed amount of fighters. Play as the Advent and put Hangar Defense/Advents at every planet you own to get this quickly. And stocking up on Aeria Drone Hosts isn't a bad idea, either.

[edit] Capital Ship Armada

Own the maximum number of Capital Ships possible. Your fleet research must also be at the max level.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: As with most others here, there isn't a whole lot of strategy needed. Just get 16 Capital Ships and you're done.

[edit] Ship Swarm

Own the maximum number of ships your fleet points can support. Your fleet research must also be at the max level.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • How To: It shouldn't be too difficult to fill up that 2000 supply limit (2200 for the Vasari). Just make sure you've got a nice cash flow before you do this, though.

[edit] Outstanding Resume

Complete at least 30 missions.

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How To: Unless you're playing with a friend, this can be a bit of a chore to do. You have to do it in one sitting, so it might be a good idea to buddy-up with a friend and both of you attack this head-on.

[edit] Exploration Achievements

[edit] Star Explorer

Travel to another star system.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: Just make sure you have Long-Range Jumping researched. (NOTE: This will forbid you from earning any of the Combat Research Achievements.)

[edit] Escape From Max

Travel through a wormhole to discover where it leads to.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: Like the one above, but make sure you have Wormhole Usage researched. (NOTE: This will forbid you from earning any of the Combat Research Achievements.)

[edit] Peacemaker Achievements

    • QUICK EARN: For Road to Peace, Pacifist, Mutual Trader, Planet Visionary, and Ship Visionary, putting a friend or computer on your team and having teams locked will give you these 5 automatically. Spiffy.

[edit] Credit Lender

Give 25,000 Credits to other players.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: It should happen naturally over the course of a long game with a friend.

[edit] Metal Lender

Give 20,000 Metal to other players.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: As with the above, it should come to you naturally during a long game with a friend.

[edit] Crystal Lender

Give 20,000 Crystal to other players.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: Again, it shouldn't be long before you get this one.

[edit] Road to Peace

Form a Cease Fire with another player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: See QUICK EARN at top.

[edit] Pacifist

Form a Peace Treaty with another player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: See QUICK EARN at top.

[edit] Mutual Trader

Form a Trade Alliance with another player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: See QUICK EARN at top.

[edit] Planet Visionary

Form a Planet Vision alliance with another player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: See QUICK EARN at top.

[edit] Ship Visionary

Form a Ship Vision alliance with another player.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: See QUICK EARN at top.

[edit] Empire Achievements

[edit] Family Planning

In a single game, support a minimum population of at least 6,000.

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • How To: Set up a map where there's a lot of colonizable planets. It shouldn't be too difficult to get this once you do.

[edit] Tax Collector

Collect 200,000 Credits from taxes.

  • Difficulty: Fairly Easy
  • How To: Once you've got a large-enough empire going, you should get this one before too long.

[edit] Export Maven

Collect 20,000 Credits from trade ships.

  • Difficulty: Fairly Easy
  • How To: Again, a substantial trading route should accomplish this in no time.

[edit] Metal Miner

Collect 35,000 Metal from resource extractors.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: Just build a crap-load of Metal Extractors. You should get it quickly.

[edit] Crystal Miner

Collect 35,000 Crystal from resource extractors.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How To: Just build a lot of Crystal Extractors. If you don't get this before long, I truly pity you.

[edit] Refining Magnate

Collect 20,000 Metal or Crystal from refinery ships.

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • How To: If you're TEC or Vasari, this Achievement should be a cakewalk by placing them on Volcanic and Ice worlds. For the Advent, though, you're more or less out of luck.

[edit] Pop Idol

In a single game, have a cultural influence of 75% or greater.

  • Difficulty: Very Hard
  • How To: 75% influence is actually harder than it sounds. You need to essentially make a map without any Uncolonizable Gravity Wells (UGWs) and make sure you've got Broadcast Centers, Temples of Communion, or Media Hubs at each one.
    • NOTE: Until Patch 1.03 was implemented, this Achievement was actually impossible to get due to an unintended halving of culture in the game. It was fixed in the patch.

[edit] Combat Achievements

[edit] Expert Bombardier

In a single game, deal a total of 15,750 damage to planets.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy-Medium
  • How To: Three full-health Planets (or Pirate Bases) will fulfill this achievement. Alternatively, 6 full-health Asteroids (dead or not) will also accomplish this.

[edit] Frigate Killer

In a single game, destroy 1,000 enemy Frigates/Cruisers.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy-Medium
  • How To: Depending on the size of the map (and the fleets), you may fight so many cruisers that you get this without even thinking about it, or it may take a stupifyingly long time.

[edit] Capital Ship Assassin

In a single game, destroy 30 enemy Capital Ships.

  • Difficulty: Medium-Hard
  • How To: Pretty much only feasible on larger maps (or if the AI builds a LOT of Capital Ships), the very nature of Capitals will make taking out 30 a challenge. Thirty WEAK ones, though...

[edit] Wrecking Crew

In a single game, destroy 200 enemy planet structures.

  • Difficulty: Somewhat Hard-Very Hard
  • How To: 200 planet structures requires a LOT of time and patience. A large map is pretty much a necessity to earn this one.

[edit] Pilot's Bane

In a single game, destroy 2,500 enemy strikecraft.

  • Difficulty: Hard-INSANE
  • How To: This is highly dependent on how many fighters/bombers the enemies build. Make sure you've got Anti-Strikecraft Frigates in place for this!
  • Tip: If you take the TEC against an Advent AI, this gets a little easier - a pair of Kols with Flak Burst can obliterate any strikecraft in range in a single pass, leaving the flak ships to catch the stragglers; and the Advent AI player likes to field properly massive fighter swarms if it gets big enough - bonus points being that Advent have more fighters per squad than any other race. Will still take an age, though.

[edit] Pirate Exterminator

In a single game, destroy 1,000 pirate ships.

  • Difficulty: Medium-INSANE
  • How To: Pirates by themselves aren't much of a threat in the beginning, but as the game progresses (and their fleets get larger), they become more of a problem. Try to ensure that there's a fleet parked outside their base so you can annihilate it quickly before they reach you or their target.
  • Tip: In Entrenchment, this becomes almost laugably easy. If you find a map where the Pirates have but one route of attack, a starbase, minefield and supporting tactical structures at the chokepoint can repel an almost arbitary number of pirate vessels with ease. Stick a capital ship in the mix and you get a handy level grinder to boot.

[edit] Anti-Globalization

In a single game, destroy 100 trade ships.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy-Medium
  • How To: This depends on how many trade ports are built. It also depends on how determined you are to wage economic warefare. On the plus side, they can't fight back... unless an Advent likes Karmic Retribution.

[edit] Dead Canaries

Destroy 50 refinery ships.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy-Medium
  • How To: Same as above, but with refinery ships.

[edit] Union Buster

Destroy 50 construction ships.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy-Medium
  • How To: You'll have to DELIBERATELY target constructor ships for this achievement - getting the big 5-0 is harder than it sounds.

[edit] Miscellaneous Achievements

[edit] Pirate Baron

Take over a Pirate Stronghold.

  • Difficulty: Easy-Hard
  • How To: Depending on the size of the fleet stationed there (as well as your own), you may sweep the Pirates without a fight, or be forced to make several mosquito strikes. Either way, once you colonize the base, the Achievement's yours.

[edit] Space Ponies!!!

Um...what?

  • Difficulty: Variable
  • How To: This achievement is pure happenstance. It requires a WHOLE lotta luck to find the planet bonus you need.

[edit] Colonizer

Have 30 planets colonized at the same time.

  • Difficulty: Fairly Easy
  • How To: Get a map with 30 colonizable planets, and colonize 'em. Just make sure you can hold on to 'em!

[edit] Metal Speculator

Buy 10,000 Metal from the Black Market.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • How To: Especially during the late game, when you've got tons of cash, getting 10,000 from the Black Market should be a simple task.

[edit] Metal Merchant

Sell 10,000 Metal directly to the Black Market.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: You'll likely get this as you're trying to get the funds for research or the like.

[edit] Crystal Speculator

Buy 10,000 Crystal from the Black Market.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • How To: See Metal Speculator.

[edit] Crystal Merchant

Sell 10,000 Crystal directly to the Black Market.

  • Difficulty: Fairly Easy
  • How To: For most of your research, you'll find yourself a little short on Crystal to do this. Once you're fully researched, though, it shouldn't be an issue.

[edit] Resource Opportunist

Gain 15,000 Credits from other players buying up your resources.

  • Difficulty: Variable
  • How To: You'll have to rely on luck for this one, as there's no guarantee they'll grab the resources you'll put up.

[edit] He's No Good To Me Dead

In a single game, raise an opponent's bounty by 65,000.

  • Difficulty: Fairly Easy
  • How To: By the time your income is steadily coming in (ideally when all you need it for is planets and ships), all you need to do is increase bounty to 65,000. That's it.

[edit] World Builder

Create your own custom galaxy and preview the results.

  • Difficulty: Laughably Easy
  • How To: It doesn't matter how big, small, detailed, or scrappy the map is - once you make one, save it, preview it, and the Achievement's yours.
