Heavily armed and armored, the Kodiak is the most powerful warship in the TEC fleet outside of capital ships and was originally designed for clearing paths through dense, metal-rich asteroid fields. Capable of soaking up huge amounts of damage, the Kodiak can quickly close in on its targets to unleash its powerful autocannon barrage. Many of the Kodiak crews are among the most battle experienced in the TEC fleet.

The Kodiak is the weakest in firepower but is the strongest in armor and hull. It will lose most toe-to-toe battles with its counterparts like the Destra or Enforcer. The Kodiak can be the most effective, however, because the price tag on it is the cheapest and it also builds the fastest. The Kodiak also make a great "meat shield" for those more important ships in your fleet.

- When assisted by a support vessel such as a Dunov or Hoshiko, a group of seven, eight, or more Kodiaks becomes extremely effective offensively.
- Thanks to the TEC tech tree, the Kodiak builds faster and cheaper than any other heavy cruiser in the game. If you find yourself locked into a war of attrition, consider the possibility of assembling a fleet of forty or more Kodiaks, and then simply punching through the enemy lines, preferably at the most heavily defended point.
- Avoid committing your Kodiaks to battle one or two at a time if possible--the Kodiak is tougher and more durable, but not all that powerful compared to other heavy cruisers, so you'll need to make up in mass what you lack in firepower.
